Summary:

This article talks about how Glyde plans to establish a Web site that makes people’s buying or selling used media products more simple. It will be challenging eBay or Amazon.com. The creator is Simon Rothman who used worked at eBay; he says that e-commerce is too complex for sellers and shoppers to make deal; but Glyde will be easier. It is backed by $6 million from investors. But the company faces challenges like eBay and Amazon.com dominating the market, and they will have to attract a critical number of sellers to have a better chance of success. Using this site, sellers do not need to upload a photo or type in a product description. Glyde will assessing the quality of each seller, including how responsive he is in transactions; Glyde keeps the money until the buyers are satisfied with the item, and Glyde would monitor people’s behavior for unusual patterns.

Reaction:

eBay and Amazon.com are the most famous online e-commerce companies. It is difficult for Glyde’s competing, but Glyde was figured out a good idea to attract customers. If they really can make the deal-making process more convenient, a lot of sellers and buyers who felt trouble with the online deal process will tend to choose it.

But they still need to consider some important questions. First, as the article said, they still have no solutions for some sellers who list stolen or bootlegged meterial online. eBay and Amazon.com because of their perfecting process and their online deal making have become very complex. If we just care about the convenient elements, it will cause many unknown problems without safety identification such as the selling of fake. And another problem is how to make customers consent to the credibility of the website. In my opinion, I thought most buyers prefer to choose the complex but safe way to make deals instead of this dealing way. Nobody wants to spend money in an unfamiliar e-commerce website.

Even though they need to face a lot of problems, their idea is creative. It also can make eBay or Amazon.com consider their deal processes. And as in time past, dealing online could be the most convenient way to buy goods for customers without going to the shop.
